Install the thick apply plate for optimum load distribution.Caution: DO NOT USE THE THIN APPLY PLATE IN THE 5-SPEED UNIT.2. Install 1 SS ID splined friction plate with friction material facing up toward you.3. Install 1 SS OD splined friction plate with friction material facing up toward you.4. Continue alternating SS ID splined friction plates and SS OD splined friction plates until 7 of the ID splined plates and 7 of the OD splined plates are installed.5. Install the OE backing plate, followed by the (OE) snap ring.Late 6-speed units:1. Install the thin apply plate for optimum load distribution.Caution: DO NOT USE THE THICK APPLY PLATE IN THE 6 SPEED UNIT.2. Install 1 SS ID splined friction plate with friction material facing up toward you.3. Install 1 SS OD splined friction plate with friction material facing up toward you.4. Continue alternating SS ID splined friction plates and SS OD splined friction plates until all 8 of the ID splined plates and all 8 of the OD splined plates are installed.5. Install the OE backing plate, followed by the (OE) snap ring.
