Sintered powder metal friction material clutch plates tolerate high temperatures well above those at which cooling fluid becomes thermally unstable in wet and dry friction applications with very low/intermittent oil flow through high thermal conductivity. Sintered metal friction clutch plates are often referred to as "bronze clutches" or "brass clutches". Sintered metal materials are compacted mixtures of metallic powders, primarily copper, and friction modifiers which are sintered at temperatures in excess of 600° C. Sintered metal materials can survive thermal abuse and offer long product life.
